Having tried a MS camera and an old Quickcam, with various apps, and configurations I became very frustrated, as I had camera lights on, but no image, sometimes one or two frames, then the app would freeze, error messages etc, in some cases the whole OS would die. So far my raspberry pi recognizes the webcam. I needed a uvc camera (I went for a logitech c270, as it was on offer at £18 from John Lewis). I was wondering if anyone knows how to set up a webcam to work as a camera and mic on a raspberry pi. I needed to use the powered hub loopback method thing (where the pi is powered from the hub, but the usb from the hub is plugged into the pi too, so external devices don't draw power from the pi, make sure it's a decent hub that doesn't leak current upstream). I have managed to get a working webcam on the pi a few months ago, after trying:
